Killer Sudoku: how a round works

Start Killer Sudoku by looking at the playing area and its controls. Fill rows, columns and boxes with 1–9 once. Cage digits cannot repeat and must add to their clue. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

This collection contains 8 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

One thing to notice as you play

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Notice the feedback after each input.

The challenge in front of you

Fill rows, columns and boxes with 1–9 once. Cage digits cannot repeat and must add to their clue. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

The order of play

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Making selections and moves

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

An example before you play

A two-cell cage labelled 3 holds 1 and 2; a one-cell cage fixes its own value. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Look for the relevant detail.

A useful caution

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. A different version of the game may use a different rule. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
