How to Play Peg Solitaire

Play Peg Solitaire ↗

THE PLAYBOOK · ZZOMY

Read before your next round of Peg Solitaire

Start Peg Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.

English 33-hole cross; central starting gap; any final single peg wins.

Practice with a purpose

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Leave a single peg on the English cross board. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Start here and follow along

  1. Select a peg and an empty hole two squares away.
  2. Jump horizontally or vertically over one peg, removing it.
  3. Plan so remaining pegs can still interact.
  4. Undo repairs a deadlock.

The controls to know

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

An example before you play

Peg–peg–empty in one line permits one jump. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Notice the change in the playing area.

Check this before moving on

Diagonal jumps and pulling are not allowed. Compare the situation with the worked example. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
